Budget Plywood Packs

What Is Bunk Wood?
If you're in the market for high-quality hardwood in larger volumes, you've likely come across the term "bunk wood." At L.L. Johnson, we sell our lumber by the bunk, which simply means it's bundled and sold in bulk quantities—typically as it comes from the mill, stacked and banded together. Buying by the bunk is ideal for contractors, builders, cabinet makers, or anyone needing a consistent supply of premium wood at competitive pricing.
Each bunk includes a range of board lengths and widths, but what sets it apart is the grade: all of our bunk wood is S&B – Select and Better. This ensures you're getting top-tier hardwood with minimal imperfections and excellent workability for your projects.
What Does S&B (Select and Better) Mean?
S&B stands for Select and Better, a common hardwood grading term used in the lumber industry. It refers to lumber that meets or exceeds the specifications of Select grade, which allows for mostly clear, defect-free boards on at least one face. In an S&B bunk, you may find a mix of Select and FAS (First and Seconds) boards—the highest grades available—making it ideal for visible applications like cabinetry, trim, and furniture.
S&B wood is prized for its:
- High yield of usable material per board
- Minimal knots or defects
- Smooth surfaces for clean finishing
- Consistent quality across the bunk
Whether you're building custom furniture or framing interior spaces, S&B bunk wood gives you the confidence that you're working with some of the best material available.
